SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS/BCN) -- A health advisory issued by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District was today extended through Saturday due to smoky air conditions throughout the region.
The initial health advisory was issued Wednesday in response to hundreds of wildfires in California that have created unhealthy air.
"We're hoping the wind patterns change over the weekend and push some of the smoke out of the Bay Area," Air District spokesman Ralph Borrmann said.
Bay Area residents are urged to avoid exposure to the smoky air, especially those more sensitive such as children and the elderly.
Napa Valley Open For Business Despite Smoky Skies
Despite the smoke in the air in the North Bay, Napa Valley businesses say the area is unaffected and businesses are open as usual. The towns folk say they hope people won't be deterred by reports of unhealthy smoke in the air. Much of the smoke is coming from fires burning in Northern California.
