How to get there: From Half Moon Bay, drive south on Highway 1 for 17 miles to Pescadero Road. Turn left and drive past the town of Pescadero (about three miles) to Cloverdale Road. Turn right and drive 4.5 miles to the park entrance road and then continue straight for 1.2 miles to Gazos Creek Road. Turn left on Gazos Creek Road and drive 0.4 miles to a dirt pull-out on the right.
Trailhead: Park at the pull-out and walk up the road a short distance to a trailhead on the left. Look for the small, gold State Property Sign about 20 feet up the trail on the right.

To find this spot, drive west on Sir Francis Drake past the main entrance for Samuel P. Taylor State Park for one mile to the dirt pull-out on the left, across from the access road for Devil’s Gulch Horse Camp. Park on the left, cross Sir Francis Drake, and walk up the access road for the horse camp to the signed trailhead on the right for Devil’s Gulch and Bill’s Trail. (415) 488-9897; www.parks.ca.gov.
How to get there: From San Francisco, take U.S. 101 north to Marin to the exit for Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Take that exit and drive west to the town of Olema and the junction with Highway 1. Turn right on Highway 1 and drive 100 yards to Bear Valley Road. Turn left on Bear Valley Road and drive two miles to Sir Francis Drake Highway. Turn left on Sir Francis Drake Highway and drive 5.6 miles to Pierce Ranch Road. Bear right and drive 1.2 miles to the entrance road on the right for Tomales Bay State Park (well signed). Turn right and drive 1.5 miles to the parking area and the trailhead at Hearts Desire Beach.

How to get there: From San Francisco, take Highway 280 south to Palo Alto and the exit for Page Mill Road. Take that exit, turn west and drive (becomes twisty) to Skyline Blvd. Cross Skyline and continue west (straight) on Alpine Road for three miles (twisty) to Portola State Park Road. Turn left and drive three miles to park entrance. Park near visitor center.

Continue straight to La Honda and continue a half mile to La Honda/Pescadero Road. Turn left and drive 2 miles to a Y. Bear right (Pescadero Road) and drive a short distance to the park entrance on the right.

Bay closure: No Dungeness crabs can be taken in San Francisco Bay. No restriction on rock crabs.
Size and take limit: For the Bay Area coast on personal sport boats, Dungeness crabs must be 53/4 inches (measured from point to point on the shell) with a 10-crab limit; on party boats, Dungeness crabs must be 6 inches with 6-crab limit. Note that from Mendocino County northward, party boats have same limit as personal sport boats. Fishing license required.
